South China's Hainan Province reported an estimated 5.8-percent year-on-year growth in its gross domestic product (GDP) in 2019, Shen Xiaoming, governor of Hainan, said on Jan 16.
The province has set a GDP growth target of 6.5 percent for this year, according to the government work report delivered by Shen to the provincial legislative meeting held on Jan 16.
Last year, Hainan's tourism revenue grew 11.3 percent year on year and the number of overseas tourists increased by 13.6 percent, 9 percentage points higher than the country's average, the report read.
The per capita disposable income of residents in both urban and rural areas increased by 8 percent. The figure is expected to rise by 8 percent among urban residents and 8.2 percent among rural residents in 2020.
The province aims to create 130,000 urban jobs this year.
Both the actual use of foreign capital and the number of newly-established overseas-funded enterprises in Hainan grew by more than 100 percent in 2019, according to the report.
More than 7,700 international skilled workers have come to Hainan for work since April 2018, the report said.
