'Goddess of Dance' descends on Beijing with Shangrila-Dynamic Yunan

For anyone who wants to feast their eyes on the essence of modern Chinese folk dance from Southwest China's iridescent Yunnan province, they definitely shouldn't miss the Yang Liping show by the "Goddess of Dance" when it comes to their cities.

Over this weekend, Beijingers would be lucky to catch Shangrila-Dynamic Yunnan, a globally sought-after masterpiece created by the Chinese dancer and choreographer back in 2003.

Drawing inspiration from her home province's rich legends and cultural traditions, Yang weaved rhythm, dance and theater into her dance drama, making it a spellbinding art form to express the struggles and aspirations of the human condition.

As urbanization is fracturing the fabric of the rich traditions practiced by the province's multiple ethnic groups, Shangrila-Dynamic Yunnan is considered an attempt to create a living museum where traditions can be appreciated by modern people and passed on to future generations.

If you go:
