BEIJING - The life expectancy of Beijing residents stood at 82.2 in 2018, the municipal health authorities said Friday.

The city's residents' life expectancy was 0.4 years higher than 2014, and 1.7 years higher than 2009, said a health status report released by the Beijing Municipal Health Commission.

Chronic diseases remained the leading cause of death among Beijing residents. Heart disease, cancer and cerebrovascular disease ranked the top three causes of death, accounting for 70.9 percent of the total deaths, down 3.1 percent from 2014.

The commission said Beijing's elderly population, those above 60, has reached 3.52 million, leading to increased risks of chronic diseases in the years to come.
