HONG KONG - Hong Kong police said a total of 6,022 people had been arrested during the six-month-long protests stemming from the extradition bill incident.

Some 2,393 of those arrested were students, accounting for nearly 40 percent of the total amount, police said.

Kong Wing-cheung, senior superintendent for media liaison and communication of the Hong Kong Police Force's public relations branch, expressed concerns over the large number of student arrestees during a press briefing on Monday.

The extradition bill has since been withdrawn.
