$120,000 for banana taped to a wall at Art Basel
A banana stuck to a wall with duct tape sold for $120,000 at Miami's Art Basel last week before being eaten by a performance artist. It may be the most talked-about artwork at this year's event. Two of the three editions have been sold, according to Perrotin, the contemporary art gallery behind the work. The last one is expected to go for $150,000. The piece, The Comedian, was created by Maurizio Cattelan, the Italian artist known for his 18-carat-gold toilet.
Chinese box office takes $8.5 billion so far
The Chinese box office this year hit 60 billion yuan ($8.5 billion) on Friday, passing the mark 24 days earlier than last year. The number represents 5.2 percent growth year-on-year, with a total of 1.6 billion visits made to cinemas.
Dinosaur footprint site discovered in Chengde
Paleontologists have announced the discovery of a large dinosaur footprint site that dates to the Jurassic period at an ancient imperial resort in North China. Footprints from multiple dinosaur species were found in Madigou village in Chengde, Hebei province, which is known for making the paving stones used to build the Chengde Mountain Resort, a summer retreat for emperors of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
