Premier Li Keqiang on Tuesday urged greater synergy in development strategies between China and El Salvador to foster new horizons for bilateral cooperation.

In talks with El Salvador President Nayib Bukele in Beijing, Li said there is huge potential for bilateral cooperation and the two countries should step up cooperation in trade, investment and infrastructure development, as well as agricultural sectors.

China is willing to consolidate the political foundations for bilateral relations, enhance political mutual trust and expand pragmatic cooperation, he said.

He voiced China's support to the Central American country in its efforts to safeguard its national security and stability and improve public livelihood.

He also expressed hope El Salvador can provide support and convenience to Chinese businesses investing in the country, saying bilateral exchanges in education, tourism and culture should be expanded to boost people-to-people exchanges.

Bukele said El Salvador firmly adheres to the one-China policy, and the country is willing to be the gateway for Chinese businesses entering the Americas.

He also called for closer bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture and people-to-people exchanges, saying the country will provide convenience and legal support to Chinese businesses.

China and El Salvador established diplomatic relations in August 2018 after the Central American country severed "diplomatic ties" with Taiwan.
