As the temperature in Songyuan, Northeast China's Jilin province, drops to -10 C, Chagan Lake begins to freeze.
Crystal-clear ice floats on the lake, heralding the coming of the winter fishing season, which starts in mid-December each year and ends in the middle of the following January.
Chagan Lake, the country's seventh-largest lake, boasts 68 varieties of fish.
During the winter fishing season, the local temperatures can reach as low as -45 C. Fish freeze as soon as they are out of the water.
