New report details top three services consumed by Shanghai residents

The 2019 series of survey reports on the consumption of services by Shanghai residents.

Food catering, entertainment and tourism were the three major services consumed by Shanghai residents in 2019, according to a survey conducted by the Shanghai Survey Team of the National Bureau of Statistics.

Released on Nov 14, the findings of the survey were based on responses by permanent residents aged 18 to 70.

According to the survey, about 90.5 percent of the respondents have spent on food catering, 84.4 percent have spent on cultural and recreational activities, and 83.2 percent have spent on tourism.

The popularity of emerging services related to online entertainment and health has also been growing. Over 30 percent of the respondents have spent on online videos, fitness activities as well as massage and physical therapy, according to the survey.

Meanwhile, 56.5 percent of the respondents said that they had used online car-hailing services in the past year, while 41.9 percent had utilized bicycle rental services.

The demand for educational services was also highlighted in the report. According to the survey, nearly 70 percent of the respondents have spent on such services for their children this year. In addition, nearly 60 percent of young and middle-aged people between 26 to 50 years old have spent on adult education and training. Nearly 15 percent of them said that their expenditure on such services this year was more than last year's.

The report added that housekeeping services, convenient services and membership services all also been growing this year.
