BUDAPEST - Zsolt Borkai, mayor of western city Gyor, and former chairman of the Hungarian Olympic Committee (MOB), was recalled by the Hungarian Gymnastics Association following a sex-scandal, local media reported here on Thursday.

Involved in a sex-drug-prostitute scandal, he was forced to leave ruling Fidesz party first and now from MOB. He continues to work as an independent mayor.

Between November 2010 and May 2017, Borkai, gymnast, Olympic champion, was president of MOB. On May 2, 2017, he fell short of the presidency. Borkai nevertheless retained his membership as a delegate of the Hungarian Gymnastics Association. Its membership has now been withdrawn by the federation, but it will continue to receive Olympic allowances, several Hungarian news portals such as Index and Napi reported.

Borkai competed at the 1988 Summer Olympic Games in Seoul, where he won a gold medal in pommel horse.

Before the October 13 local elections, a video showing Borkai in an orgy with prostitutes and other men on board a luxury yacht had been leaked.

Since the incident, the mayor evades all public events.
