Look Back into the Sun: Photographic Exhibition by Gao Yuan

On Dec 17, 1994, before the celebrated Hong Kong Coliseum thundered for the historic Chinese rock concert, Dou Wei, the iconic rocker with a poker face, was seen sitting in the auditorium during the rehearsal.

Photographer Gao Yuan captured this moment on her monochrome film camera, developing it into an epic shot in Chinese rock history.

Starting to photograph the Chinese rock community at 19, Gao, the country's first female rock photographer, used her lens to chronicle China's rising rock scene in the 1990s by photographing nearly every major act such as those of Cui Jian and heavy metal band Tang Dynasty.

Now her work is on display in a career retrospective titled Look Back into the Sun at Today Art Museum in Beijing. When viewing her work, audiences can readily feel the strong pulses of the golden era of Chinese rock music.

The event runs until Nov 26.

If you go: 10:00-18:00, Tuesday to Sunday. Building 4, Pingod Community, No 32 Baiziwan Road, Chaoyang district, Beijing. 010-58760600北京市朝阳区百子湾路32号苹果社区4号楼
