During the meeting of foreign ministers, the draft was presented by Deputy Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Sergey Kosilov. He emphasized that the Games would become an unexampled on its scale sports event within the Commonwealth. The competitions will include Olympic disciplines, as well as the most popular in the CIS countries national and non-Olympic sports.

"The Commonwealth Games would contribute to the preservation of national sports and games of the CIS member states, their popularization and promotion at the international level. It is important that in the framework of the Games of the CIS, it is planned to organize a cultural as well as scientific-and-practical events on the issues related to physical culture and sports," Kosilov said.

The games will be held by rotation in the CIS member state in every 2 years and will last up to 10 days. The Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports will be in charge with the coordination of the preparation of the Games of the CIS countries.

It is also important that the Games will also welcome the participation of teams of non-CIS member states.

"The Russian Federation is ready to organize the first Games of the CIS countries in 2020 in Kazan, where there is an appropriate sports infrastructure, as well as extensive experience in hosting major international sports events and competitions. We are planning to offer partners a youth format for holding the Games in 19 sports, including table tennis, swimming, judo, boxing, karate, futsal, beach volleyball, belt wrestling, fencing, chess and other sports," Kosilov said.
