China's road cargo transport grows in January-August

BEIJING -- China's road cargo transport saw steady growth in the first eight months of 2019, official data showed.
Road cargo volume increased 5.8 percent year on year to 26.38 billion tonnes in the January-August period, the Ministry of Transport said in a statement.
Southeast China's Fujian province registered the fastest growth with a growth rate of 12.1 percent, followed by Heilongjiang and Hainan.
Expressway cargo volume increased 8.9 percent year on year in the period, according to the ministry.
Fixed asset investment in road transport rose 3.8 percent to 1.35 trillion yuan (about $191 billion) between January and August, the ministry added.
