Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri, the United Arab Emirates ambassador to China, says the horse is a source of passion, power and encouragement for Arabs, and the culture related to horses has permeated every aspect of life.

The exhibition through the works on display also hinted at how the internet era and technological developments could marginalize humans, just like what has happened to horses over the years, says Feng Hui, the editor-in-chief of the magazine Harmony, put out by the Beijing Hong Kong Jockey Club Clubhouse and co-initiator of the exhibition.

"I hope it (the exhibition) reflects humanity and provides an opportunity for us to face the present with a future-oriented perspective," she says.

Highlights of the exhibition include a "horse" made of 1,850 pieces of stainless steel and PMMA components by sculptor Xia Hang, ink-wash paintings by Sun Hao and an oil painting work by You Jin.

The exhibition runs through Nov 21.
