Beijing lashed by disruptive downpour

A new round of rainfall hit the capital on Monday after peak temperatures in Beijing on Sunday broke a historical record for early September, reaching 35.9 C, according to the local meteorological department.

On Monday evening during the capital's rush hour, a number of subway stations in Beijing provided free raincoats for people who were on their way home from work.
