At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will pay a state visit to China from Sept 10 to 12, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said on Thursday.

This is the first time that Tokayev will pay a state visit to China since taking the office.

The two countries' heads of state will sign and issue important political documents that sum up bilateral ties and plan the development of the ties, Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang later told a regular press conference on Thursday.

China attaches great importance to Tokayev's visit, and expects the visit to bear rich outcomes to inject new momentum into the development of the China-Kazakhstan comprehensive strategic partnership and further promote cooperation on building the Belt and Road, Geng said.
