The Hindi version of a book, which tells stories of China’s reform and opening-up, is set to be published following the signing of a contract recently.

The Guangdong People’s Publishing House signed the contract with Indian publisher General Book Depot, authorizing the Hindi version of The Sleeping Giant Awakens at Beijing International Book Fair 2019.

The bilingual (English-Chinese) collection, The Sleeping Giant Awakens, was produced by China Watch, a communication-oriented think tank under China Daily and the Guangdong People’s Publishing House in 2019 to celebrate the achievements of the past 40 years.

In the book, more than 40 world-renowned figures, ranging from prominent politicians and scholars to business leaders worldwide, who have experienced China’s reform and opening-up, shared their insights on the so-called “China Miracle” from their own perspectives.

Meanwhile, more publishing contracts for the book to be printed in other languages are on the way, according to the Guangdong People’s Publishing House.

Xiao Fenghua, the president of the Guangdong People’s Publishing House and the deputy editor-in-chief of Southern Publishing and Media, said that the upcoming Hindi version of The Sleeping Giant Awakens will help hugely in terms of the exchange of ideas between China and India.

As for the Indian side, Kaushal Goyal, the CEO and general manager of General Book Depot, said: “I am looking forward to seeing more Chinese books published in India,

“It is a wonderful opportunity for people in India to learn about China’s reform and opening-up, so as to deepen understanding and to build friendship.” he said.
