Local authorities confirm munitions blast at Russian military unit

MOSCOW - An explosion of munitions was heard in the military unit 74008 located near the city of Achinsk in the Krasnoyarsk Region in Russia's Siberia, the local administration said on its website on Monday.

A duty group of the local emergencies service headed by Achinsk's Mayor Ilay Akhmetov has set off towards the location of the incident, it said in a statement.

The city administration is holding an emergency meeting examining the capacities of treating the injured, the availability of cots in hospitals, transport and blood stocks.

It asked local residents to remain calm and refrain from trips towards the military unit.

Earlier in the day, RIA Novosti and TASS news agencies quoted local emergencies services as saying that a fire and an explosion occurred at the military unit.

RIA Novosti said one child and three adults were injured in the blast, but there is no official information on victims so far.
