The SEEDAWARD 2019, held by Guangzhou-based real estate company Seedland, finished its North American intermediary round in Silicon Valley on July 18.

Ten teams competed. One of them demonstrated an artificial intelligence chip that uses a camera to interpret people’s subtle expressions. The AI chip classifies data to learn about human emotions. Another one demonstrated how glasses-free 3D technology could change the way people interact with one another.

The SEEDAWARD, launched by Seedland in May, aims to reward, encourage and enlighten those who love life, have innovative ideas and use technology to create better lives.

Participants were asked to submit inventions that can be used to solve life problems, which can be a software solution or a physical product.

They can be involved in fields such as healthcare, AI and the internet of things, smart transportation, energy conservation and environmental protection, and smart hardware.

The competition is open to all individuals, teams, research institutions and startups, regardless of age, nationality or background.

During the first leg of the SEEDAWARD’s global tour at the University of Oxford, United Kingdom, an excellent research team of Oxford alumni showcased its Route Master systems invention.

The invention combined deep learning technology and air balloons to observe and predict traffic flows in the often-jammed streets of Lagos, Nigeria to help the city alleviate traffic congestion.

“Seeking the doers with innovative ideas and encouraging the development of technologies applicable to life scenarios are the core values of the SEEDAWARD,” said K.K.Ng, CMO of Seedland Group.

“It is intended to push the improvement and invention of new technologies that can be applied to human life and enlighten people’s creativity in science and humanity.”

“Contestants will benefit from an expert mentoring program with some of the world’s leading scientists and inventors to help them test and bring their creations to fruition,” said Lu Chuyang, CEO of Fast Company China, a supporter of the award.

Representatives from Seedland said that as a company with a strong sense of social responsibility, it is not only paying attention to what buildings it will construct in the next three to five years, but also its relationship with people and society in the longer term.

The company advocates pursuing sustainable development in the whole of society while creating a better life, they said.

Luo Jianwei, co-president of Seedland, said, “We embody the spirit of seeds — a symbol of hope— and every creative project of the SEEDAWARD displays its creators’ enthusiasm and hope toward life.”

Since its founding in 2006, Seedland has grown rapidly to become an emerging force in the real estate industry.

Smart homes based on AI and the IoT are now popular and Seedland has worked in the field for a long time.

In October 2018, it launched its self-developed Smart Life System, which connects information related to real estate, property services, health, retail and third-party service providers.

Under the precondition of users’ permission, it searches out dynamic data and has set up a cloud platform to improve products and services.

In some real estate projects developed by Seedland, curtains, lights, sound and projectors can be controlled by voice.

Smart home is also a field in the SEEDAWARD. The event will hold its Asia-Pacific intermediary round in Guangzhou in August. European heats will be held in London in September. Its final will be hosted in China in October.

The best project will win 1 million yuan ($146,200) and three excellent projects will each be awarded 200,000 yuan.
