Palace Museum unveils digital products for cultural promotion

BEIJING -- The Palace Museum has unveiled a number of upgraded and newly developed digital products to promote the rich history and culture it represents.
In the museum's upgraded "digital cultural relic storage", a large number of high-resolution images of cultural relics were added to its database, which already contained detailed information on 1.86 million cultural relics from the museum's collection.
Another upgraded product "Panoramic Palace Museum" enables users to tour all the areas open to the public in the Forbidden City, where the museum is located. The product can also be used alongside virtual reality devices to provide a more immersive experience.
Other products include a digital gallery featuring the museum's artwork collection, a mobile tourist guide app and a WeChat mini-app that tells the stories behind the buildings in the Forbidden City.
As digital technology sees rapid development, museums are faced with opportunities and challenges at the same time, said Wang Xudong, curator of the museum, adding that the digital products marked the Palace Museum's exploration of future development.
