President Xi Jinping called on Friday for consolidating the outcomes of the reform of Party and State institutions to bring about better governance of the country.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remark at a meeting in Beijing reviewing the nation's reform of Party and State institutions.

A plan on deepening the reform of Party and State institutions was adopted at the Third Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee in February 2018, touching upon a wide range of entities in the Party and State structure.

Xi hailed institutional reform as a significant part of the nation's overall reform and also a means of improving the nation's governance system and capability.

A framework for the function of Party and State institutions that meets the requirement of the new era has been preliminarily set up, Xi said, adding that the reform has provided a strong institutional guarantee of improving the socialist system with Chinese characteristics and better governance.
