The municipal government of Shanghai recently released a three-year action plan (2019-2021) for the city's intelligent manufacturing with the ambitious goal to become a national hub for intelligent manufacturing applications by 2021, local media reported.

According to the guidelines issued on June 24, Pudong New Area, an economic growth engine for Shanghai, has an essential role to play in reaching this goal.

An official from the municipal government of Shanghai said that the city aims to further improve its ability to build world-class industrial clusters for automobile and electronic information companies, cultivate scientific and technological enterprises and intelligent manufacturing solution providers, and promote the integration of the Yangtze River Delta region.

Intelligent manufacturing is by no means intelligent plus manufacturing, but refers to the improvement of economic efficiency and industrial innovation through the use of intelligent technology, said the official.

To achieve the target, six key measures are in the pipeline with Lingang, Shanghai's leading science and technology region, expected to be built into a world-class intelligent manufacturing industry center.

The city will also work on the application of 5G technology, artificial intelligence and big data in intelligent manufacturing, and build up several application scenarios.
