Body discovered in Hunan high school
Police on Wednesday dug out a body buried under a high school sports ground in Huaihua city, Hunan province.
The body is suspected to be that of a former employee of the school who went missing during the construction of the sports ground in 2003, local media reported on Thursday.
An Huaihua police officer told Beijing News that they received a lead on a possible murder case that took place about 16 years ago when investigating another case.
The information led to the discovery of the body buried under the track of Xinhuang No 1 Middle School.
The victim is suspected to be Deng Shiping who was born in 1950 and was a former maintenance staff member of the school, Deng's brother told ThePaper.
Deng was reported missing in 2003, having exposed issues on the quality of the sports ground before his disappearance, his brother said.
Deng's son told ThePaper on Thursday afternoon that he is still waiting for the police to identify the body and that a suspect told police about the murder and where the body was hidden.
Xinhuang county police told Beijing News that 10 people, including the former headmaster of the school, are under police control. School activities meanwhile have carried on as normal.
