UN to commemorate 75th anniversary in 2020
UNITED NATIONS - The United Nations on Friday adopted a resolution on the commemoration of its 75th anniversary in 2020.
Adopted by the General Assembly, the resolution decided that the 75th anniversary of the United Nations shall be commemorated under the theme "The future we want, the United Nations we need: reaffirming our collective commitment to multilateralism."
It also decided that the theme of the 75th anniversary shall guide all activities, meetings and conferences organized by the United Nations in 2020.
According to the resolution, the United Nations will convene a high level meeting of the General Assembly to commemorate the anniversary on Sept 21, 2020, with the participation of heads of state and government.
At the high level meeting, the resolution decided to adopt by consensus a "concise, substantive, forward-looking and unifying declaration that captures the collective commitment of Member States to multilateralism and to the United Nations and their shared vision for a common future."
The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. It is currently made up of 193 member states.
