A student team from Tsinghua University and the Chinese University of Electronic Science and Technology got first prize at the first e-healthcare innovation competition for Chinese university students, which concluded in Shanghai last week.

Triumphing over 10 teams in the final round of the competition entitled "Dare to Dream", the team of three students, Cai Shun Jie, Li Jingjing, and Wen Jingyu secured the first prize with a mobile phone application called Kang Nuo.

The application impressed the judges with its innovative approach to helping cancer patients manage their treatment plans. Their approach offers patients the ability to access their care plan through the use of mini apps and facial recognition, plus in-depth customization and tools to help manage and optimize treatment schedules.

Others winning awards included a "Digital Nurse" developed by students from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine to improve the lives of multiple sclerosis patients, and another one called "eCare Platform" by Shanghai Jiaotong University helping the government better serve and manage drug addiction.

The competition, held by the pharmaceutical company Sanofi, aims to encourage university students to research and develop patient-centered digital solutions mainly combating chronic diseases.

Launched in late March in Shanghai, the competition has received participants from more than 30 Chinese universities. Ten teams were selected for the final.
