Chinese Academy of Sciences deepens cooperation with Sichuan
BEIJING -- The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has recently signed a framework agreement with the southwestern province of Sichuan to deepen cooperation on scientific and technological innovation.
The partnership will see the development of major research infrastructures and projects in Sichuan. It will also help accelerate the construction of a science education center and local talent training, a CAS statement said.
The construction of a supercomputer center, a high altitude cosmic ray observatory and a radio telescope will be involved, according to the provincial government.
Bai Chunli, president of CAS, said the cooperation would provide support for Sichuan to be a comprehensive national science center.
CAS is China's highest academic institution in natural sciences.
Sichuan is home to the famous giant panda. It is rich in scientific resources, with many research institutes, universities and a satellite launching center.
