SHIJIAZHUANG -- The 1,000 kv ultra-high voltage power transmission project between Xiongan and Shijiazhuang in North China's Hebei province went into operation Tuesday after a 72-hour trial run, a local source said.

The project laid the foundation for a 100-percent clean energy supply to the Xiongan New Area, according to the State Grid Hebei Electric Power Supply Co Ltd.

Zhang Guilin, manager of the Hebei company, said the project is a key state grid project that serves Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development and the building of the Xiongan New Area.

With an investment of 3.44 billion yuan ($500 million), construction on the project began in March 2018. It passes four cities and 13 counties and districts in Hebei.

Zhang said the project has been connected with multiple ultra-high voltage power transmission projects in north China, so that clean energy such as wind and solar power generated in other areas can be transmitted to Xiongan.
