A glove puppet show jointly performed by robots and human puppeteers was staged in Jinjiang city, East China's Fujian province, on Sunday as part of the ongoing cultural festival, which ends on June 8.

The show fused the intangible cultural heritage with modern technologies.

As one of the performances for an opening ceremony of 2019 Jinjiang Cultural Tour Festival, the show is scheduled to end on June 8.

Other performances include puppet finger exercises and a multimedia glove puppet interaction show featuring with advanced technologies such as visual reality, animation images and acousto-optic effects.

Chen Shizhang, director of Jinjiang Glove Puppet Art Preservation and Inheritance Center, said the robot puppeteers in the multimedia are rarely seen in China. The show was jointly held by the center and Xiamen University.

"The multimedia shows involving advanced technologies are not just performances. We aim to urge as many people as possible to experience the traditional culture and the native Minnan culture," Chen said.

"With our professional knowledge, we can upgrade the lighting and sound effects of the puppet shows, thus presenting a top level performance for the traditional puppet art," said She Yingying, an associate professor with the Software School of Xiamen University.
