Batik Air to open new route to Central Sulawesi's Luwuk

The once-daily service will be available starting from May 26.

atik Air, a subsidiary of low-cost carrier Lion Air Group, is set to open a new route that would connect Tangerang in Banten and South Sulawesi's Makassar to Luwuk district in Banggai regency, Central Sulawesi.

Available from May 26, the once-daily service will utilize the new Airbus 320-200CEO with a capacity of 12 business class and 144 economy class passenger seats, each already equipped with in-flight entertainment.

The inaugural ID-6290 flight is scheduled to fly from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang at 2:50 a.m. and arrive at Syukuran Aminuddin Amir Airport in Bubung village, Luwuk district, at 6:05 a.m. local time. The return ID-6291 flight will depart from Luwuk at 5 p.m. and land in Tangerang at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, the ID-6293 flight will take-off from Luwuk at 6:45 a.m. and land in Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi, at 8 a.m. The return ID-6292 flight is set to depart from Makassar at 3 p.m. and arrive in Luwuk at 4:15 p.m.

Achmad Luthfie, chief executive officer of Batik Air, said in an official statement that Luwuk was often referred to as kota berair (watery city) as it offered breathtaking views of bays.

“One of the easy ways to enjoy the view is from the height of Kasih Sayang Hill, especially at night,” Achmad said.

He added that travelers could also visit Salodik waterfall, which is popular among the locals, or Bukit Teletubbies (Teletubbies Hill) in the morning or afternoon. (wir/wng)
