650,000 traffic police officers dispatched during May Day holiday
BEIJING - A total of 650,000 traffic police officers have been dispatched to ensure safe and smooth traffic in China during the four-day May Day holiday, the Ministry of Public Security said Saturday.
A total of 100,000 police vehicles, more than 4,600 traffic police stations and over 10,000 provisional sentries have handled 1.41 million traffic violations across the country, keeping the traffic in good order, according to the ministry.
As of 6 p.m. Saturday, the number of accidents with casualties had dropped 43.4 percent compared with last year, with death toll falling 51.2 percent.
In addition to enhanced police force deployment, the ministry has also issued multiple traffic safety precautions on media outlets, the Internet and social media.
