Reporter's log: Visit to high-speed rail workshop
Li Wanjun, a master of high-speed train welding, showed me around the workshop. "With the rapid development of high-speed train industry, our welding techniques have upgraded, wages have risen and sense of achievement has gone up. As a front-line worker, we are in a great era," he said.
Li, who can recognize which part is not well-welded just by hearing the welding sound, has participated in many key welding missions for high-speed trains. Currently, he is devoted to carrying out innovations in welding techniques and cultivating young welders so as to make greater contribution to the industry.
"As high-speed train workers, you need to innovate in your work and establish standards for welding techniques at home and abroad," Li said.
To my surprise, not only Li but almost all workers I met at CRRC Changchun company paid great attention to innovation in their daily work.
Why?
Later, I found out the company has set up a rounded system to encourage employees to innovate by offering higher salary and position. This strategy greatly improved the manufacturing techniques, and products became more competitive in the market.
