Children's radio dramas focus on Banpo culture

An online drama for kids, The Magic and Monster of Xun Child’s Legend, was presented on Sunday in Xi’an, capital of Shaanxi province in Northwest China. It was part of the Banpo Culture Series of Children’s Radio Drama.

The drama was an excellent production, as well as a study and research project of school-enterprise cooperation under the background of media communication.

It was jointly produced by the School of Journalism and Communication of Shaanxi Normal University and Xi'an Creative Sound Entertainment Culture Communication Co., Ltd.

The radio drama is adapted from the first part of Yang Jun's series of children's stories, the Xun Child’s Legend, which is a legendary story reflecting the invention of Xun, an ancient egg-shaped, holed wind instrument.

The instrument, one of the oldest musical instruments of mankind, was unearthed in 1953 at the Banpo Cultural Site located in Banpo village, Xi’an city.

It is a typical Neolithic Yangshao Maternal Clan Settlement Site in the Yellow River Basin, built between 5,600 and 6,700 years ago over an area of 50,000 square meters.

The scenes and artifacts in the drama all originated from the cultural relics collected in Banpo Museum.

Through the interlacing narrative of time and space and history, it combines the cultural relics with fantasy images to show the simple and warm clan feelings of Banpo culture in matriarchal society and to show the prehistoric elegance of Chinese civilization.

The radio drama was put online at Himalayan FM mainly for parent-child education, aiming to create first-class listening effects and improve the storytelling ability of target users.

Hui Xuan, deputy head of Beilin district, congratulated Himalayan FM on the successful launch of the radio drama, saying that by associating with one of the excellent projects introduced by the Around-University Innovative Industrial Belt of Beilin District, the Himalayan University Anchor Incubation Center can strengthen cooperation with all sectors of society and continuously launch more profound, artistic and well-produced audio content and cultural products.

Wu Wei, deputy director of the Himalayan University, said that the radio drama project cooperation is a new undertaking for Himalayan FM.

“We hope that more high-quality IP programs will choose the Himalayan FM platform. Himalaya will continue to devote itself to the development of the audio industry and provide better platform services for good content," Wu said.
