Forest fire extinguished in Northeast China
A fire on Qipan Mountain, Shenyang in northeastern China's Liaoning province, has been extinguished, the city's fire control authority said Thursday.
The fire was put out one day after it broke out Wednesday afternoon.
Over 16,000 people living nearby have been evacuated but no casualties have been reported, the city's firefighting division said Thursday morning.
The mountain forest fire began after resident Zhang Hongli, who lives in a nearby village, used fire for spring plowing, the city's public security bureau said.
The suspected villager has been detained.
More than 7,400 people, including 2,900 firefighters, fought the fire and helped evacuate villagers, and a total of 202 rainmaking rockets were fired to quench the blaze, the city’s firefighting division said.
