Hunt is on for visitor who threw cash at giraffes in Yunnan Safari Park
A safari park in Yunnan province said on Wednesday that it is still searching for a mysterious visitor who is suspected of attempting to feed giraffes in the park with a lot of cash, and urged visitors not to feed "strange things" to the animals in the park.
Staff in Yunnan Safari Park, in the provincial capital city of Kunming, found many banknotes scattered on the ground in the enclosure where giraffes are on display at around Tuesday at noon. They immediately collected all the money, which totaled almost 10,000 yuan ($1,495), the park said in a release on its official WeChat account on Wednesday.
The staff tried to find out who threw the money but failed. Then they checked the monitoring video and found money being thrown to the giraffes, but did not see the thrower, the park said.
The park has been searching for the owner of the money through various means over the past day but failed, and the owner has not contacted the park, it said.
The park also called on visitors not to feed "strange things" to the animals or the food visitors bring with them, as these may not be fit for the animals' consumption and may affect their health. Animals may die if they eat things such as plastic bags thrown by visitors, the park said.
