Bright and colorful pictures depicting Chinese landscapes and cultural activities like lion dancing and paper-cutting attracted hundreds of visitors at the recent 2019 Ottawa Travel and Vacation Show at the Shaw Center.

The Chinese booth had the largest exhibition area at 200 square meters.

The beautifully decorated booth, established by the Toronto Office of the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism, was the eye-catcher, which brought together nearly 300 exhibitors from more than 100 countries and regions across Asia, Africa, the Americas and Europe.

Yang Wenting, director of the Chinese ministry's Toronto office, says it's necessary to introduce Canadians to China's high-quality cultural and tourism resources, since tourism has become a new highlight of Sino-Canadian cooperation in recent years.

Nearly 1.6 million visits were recorded between the two countries in 2018, the official Canada-China Year of Tourism. Nearly 200 weekly flights link 15 cities in China and Canada.

Yang says the China booth was designed based on the theme "Beautiful China Beyond Imagination" at the show. It introduced Chinese traditional culture, folk performances, folk music, food and interactive experiences.

Some Canadians at the show said their China travels were their favorite tourism experiences. They particularly enjoyed the country's scenery, culture and history.

The annual Ottawa Travel and Vacation Show is a platform for travel-market players to interact and network.

Its main goal is to spotlight the value of recent products and services.

The event is considered one of the world's largest travel-and-leisure events where industry insiders also share knowledge and experiences in seminars at the show.
