A supermoon occurs when the moon is simultaneously full and at its perigee (the point in the moon's orbit when it is closest to Earth), so it often looks bigger and brighter than usual. The Spring Equinox sees a night and day of equal length and also marks the start of longer days and shorter nights in the Northern Hemisphere.
