A mainland spokesman said on Tuesday that Taiwan authorities' counter plan to the mainland's "one country, two systems" formula for national reunification further hurt the prospect of peaceful development across the Taiwan Straits.

An Fengshan, a spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen and the ruling Democratic Progressive Party are resisting the peaceful reunification trend and seeking "Taiwan independence".

"Tsai was repeatedly attacking the mainland, deceiving the people of Taiwan, inciting hostility between the two sides," he said, adding that, "She was gambling with the interests and well-being of the people of Taiwan and seeking selfish gains for her election."

Taiwan leader Tsai unveiled a set of measures aimed at countering the "one country, two systems" put forward by the mainland in a meeting on Monday.

In response, An reiterated that peaceful reunification and "one country, two systems" are the mainland's consistent basic policies.

The specific form of implementation of "one country, two systems" in Taiwan will take into full consideration the reality of Taiwan, fully absorb the opinions and suggestions of people from all walks of life on both sides, and fully take into account the interests and feelings of Taiwan compatriots, he said.

"Any act of secession that goes against the trend of the history will not impede the peaceful reunification of the country," he added.
