For the last 18 years in Ningxia Hui autonomous region, Chen Guorong has developed a love for an art style known as fish rubbing, which involves creating printed works of different fish.

Chen first began producing fish rubbings in 2001, becoming more and more passionate about his hobby as the years passed, seeking out rare fish to add to his collection at every opportunity.

Chen has now completed a series of rubbings focusing on the aquatic biology of Ningxia's Yellow River.

His work varies: the fish can be big or small; the colors can be solid or striped; the surrounding water can be shallow or deep.

Each were produced using a similar process, which involves cleaning the fish, fixing it in place, mixing colors before painting the fish and laying it on its side, then laying paper on the fish and paiting its eyes.

Huang Chen contributed to this story.
