China Media Group, the country's leading media platform, said on Saturday it has signed an agreement with the government of South China's Guangdong province to strengthen their strategic partnership.

The announcement was made as the development of the Greater Bay Area proceeds, a region which includes Hong Kong, Macao and another nine cities in the province.

According to the agreement, China Media Group will set up two offices in the area, with provincial capital Guangzhou as its southern headquarters, and the other in Shenzhen as editorial hub. A variety of state-of-the art technologies like 5G and 4K resolution for digital television and cinematography will be utilized for the content produced there, as well as advanced through research and development with local institutions.

Government officials who attended a signing ceremony for the agreement in Beijing on Saturday include Li Xi, secretary of the Communist Party of China Guangdong Provincial Committee, provincial governor Ma Xingru, and Shen Haixiong, president of China Media Group.

Shen noted the collaboration is part of the group's continuous efforts to build a new type of world-class news platform through media convergence and technology. While the group will benefit from the experiences and advantage of the area, a nationwide pioneer in opening-up and reform, the area could also take advantage of the group's resources as its development progresses.

In October the group also set up an office in Shanghai as a regional headquarters in East China's Yangtze River Delta.
