Tencent CEO proposes bank, university for Greater Bay Area
Tencent founder Pony Ma has proposed building a development bank and university for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
He made the remarks on the sidelines of the ongoing annual two sessions in Beijing on Sunday.
Ma, who is also Tencent's chairman and CEO, along with being a deputy to the 13th National People's Congress, suggested that a Greater Bay Area development bank could focus on fintech products and services, and could encourage further industrial development in the area.
"(With this development bank), we hope that more foreign capital can be attracted to invest in technology and innovative industries," he said in his proposal.
He also suggested building a Greater Bay Area university, with the aim of nurturing high-end talent for the good of the region.
The Greater Bay Area needs to be further tapped with the development of more educational and financial resources, said Ma.
