Cherry blossom festival to kick off in mid-March
The 2019 Shanghai Cherry Blossom Festival will be held from March 15 to April 15 at Gucun Park in Baoshan district, where a total of five cherry gardens will be open to tourists.
Located in the different corners of the 430-hectare park, the 80-hectare cherry blossom planting areas feature almost 90 cherry varieties and more than 12,000 cherry plants.
Organized by Gucun Park and supported by the Shanghai Landscaping and City Appearance Administrative Bureau, the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, the Baoshan government and other district agencies, the festival has become an important cultural tourism activity in Shanghai every spring with an increasing influence in the Yangtze River Delta region as well.
During the festival period, seven themed activities will be held, including cherry blossom photography and poetry competition, voting for the best cherry tree, youth dating, a cherry fashion show, a cherry afternoon tea and sporting activities.
The park will offer leisure and entertainment, nature exploration, shopping and vacation accommodation as well.
