The First Shifo village in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province, was selected to be a part of the seventh batch of China's historic and cultural villages, according to the city’s urban and rural development department.

The list was announced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and National Cultural Heritage Administration.

It is the first village in Shenyang that has been among the list.

Located in the northwestern part of Shenbei New District in the city, the First Shifo village is 30 kilometers away from downtown Shenyang, and boasts a history of more than 3,000 years.

An important military fortress during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the village currently contains many military historical sites and ruins.

It is also a place where people of the Xibe ethnic group live in, with buildings featuring Xibe styles.

In the future, Shenyang will strengthen protection of historic sites in the city and improve management of them, according to a director from the city’s urban and rural development department.
