Ordos to develop new national desert park

Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region plans to develop a new national desert park in its Uxin Banner, according to a notice released by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, on Jan 4.

According to the information released, Uxin Banner Wengongmangha National Desert Park was included on a list of 17 desert parks that have received government approval for future development. 

A desert park is an area of the desert developed into green parkland with facilities for visitors. 

Though situated in the hinterland of the Mu Us Desert, the new park, which is planned to cover an area of 5,409 hectares, will be convenient for visitors to access thanks to an adjacent highway. 

Ulan Taolegai town, where the desert park is to be based, is an area of stunning natural beauty, blessed with a rich cultural heritage and picturesque landscapes. 

The forest coverage rate in the town is currently 37 percent, and it has received more than 10 national honors for its efforts to boost its local economy.
