All of the 2,200 highway lanes in South China's Guangdong province adopted electronic payment systems on Tuesday, according to local newspaper Yangcheng Evening news.
Drivers can either choose to pay with digital wallets such as WeChat, Alipay, or Union Pay at smart terminals on those lanes by scanning the QR code, or have their car plate information input on payment apps beforehand and have their toll collected automatically while leaving the lanes. For the second option, drivers will be notified through text messages when the payment is done.
