Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit Serbia and meet Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic on Jan 17, 2019. They are expected to discuss resolution of the Kosovo crisis, economic cooperation and regional issues.

Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008, a move not recognized by Belgrade or its ally Russia, and tensions have remained high between the two sides.

In November Kosovo set regional tensions soaring when it introduced the 100-percent tax on Serb imports and extended the tax to all international brand goods produced in Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina on Dec 28.

Serbia has talked up the possibility of an armed intervention in Kosovo after Kosovo's parliament overwhelmingly approved the formation of an army.
