Snow spree results in facial paralysis

A woman suffered sudden facial paralysis after spending a whole afternoon in the snow in Changsha, capital of Central China's Hunan province.

The 21-year-old woman, surnamed Wang, went to the hospital when she started drooling from her mouth and an eye became hard to close. She was diagnosed with facial nerve paralysis, according to the Second People's Hospital of Hunan Province on Tuesday.

Wang was born and grew up in South China's Hainan province and it is pretty rare for her to see snow. While visiting Changsha, she was so excited to see snow that she played outside until she felt her face go numb. On the morning of the second day after the numbness began, she was drooling water and discovered it was hard to close one of her eyes.

Zhao Jie, the doctor who treated Wang at the hospital, said a person can recover from sudden facial paralysis can in one month after timely treatments. Healthy lifestyles, such as eating less cold food, exercising more and avoiding long expsosure to the cold, are critical to preventing the condition.

Wang has released from hospital and returned home for further treatment.
