MOSCOW — Rescuers have pulled an infant alive from the rubble of a Russian apartment building collapse that killed at least seven people and left dozens missing.

The rescue came about 35 hours after a section of the 10-story building in the city of Magnitogorsk collapsed in an explosion believed to have been triggered by a natural gas leak.

The infant was seriously injured and the recovery prospects were unclear.

The death toll has increased to seven, and dozens more remain missing, the Emergencies Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

Search operations for the missing are underway.

A gas explosion on Monday rocked a 10-story residential building in the city of Magnitogorsk, 1,400 km east of Moscow.

President Vladimir Putin visited the site of the accident in the mining city, according to the Kremlin.
