Foreign Ministry confirms detention of third Canadian

Foreign Ministry confirmed on Thursday that a Canadian national was detained by local police due to illegal employment.

Canadian Sarah McIver has been placed under administrative detention, the ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a regular news conference.

Mclver's detention is different from the other two Canadians, who are suspected in engaging in activities endangering the national security of the country, Hua said.

The Chinese side had communications with the Canadian side over her detention and will facilitate the consular work from Canada, she added.
