Folk singer highlights the ballads of the Beijing hutongs

Chinese folk singer-songwriter, Xiaohe, whose real name is He Guofeng, gave a live performance in the alleys — or hutongs, as they’re known — of Nanluoguxiang in Beijing.

The show is part of the music project, entitled Da Mo Chang Hutong Ballad, launched by Xiaohe, which sees the singer and his musician friends adapt and perform new versions of old children ballads that have been popular among Beijing residents for generations.

During the past five months, he has selected nearly ten songs, which will be released as part of an album, titled Hutong Ballad.
