Chinese enterprises in the eyes of diplomats | Updated: 2018-12-11 16:50

The transformation of China's economy in the past 40 years, from crippling poverty to a world powerhouse, is nothing short of miraculous. The decades of stellar growth have nourished a new generation of powerful Chinese enterprises, many of them State-owned, that are increasingly competitive in international markets.

From Addis Ababa to the Gulf of Mexico, from Minsk to the Mekong River, they dot the world economic canvas and greatly promote global economic cooperation. With the launch of China's Belt & Road Initiative, now in its fifth year, the Chinese State-owned enterprises' (SOEs) global presence only grows.

Now, as China celebrates the 40th anniversary of the reform and opening-up policy, it's an apt moment to reflect on the country's economic transformation and the SOEs' role and contribution in this sea change, from foreign diplomats' perspectives in particular.

The China Daily website, together with the news center of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, interviewed a host of foreign diplomats stationed in China to get their ideas and hear their stories about Chinese SOEs. Here is a video clip preview, please enjoy.
