Beijing has China’s most voracious readers

Beijing ranks first in terms of the amount of residents’ reading among all cities in China this year, the municipal government announced in data released on Thursday.

According to the data, Beijing residents read 11.74 books per person annually on average, 7.08 more than the national average.

Residents in Beijing spent an average of 1,132 yuan ($164) on reading last year, among which 343 yuan were spent on print books.

The number of public libraries in Beijing reached 6,052 in 2018, up 4.34 percent year-on-year.
